Totó la Momposina: Celebración Colombiana (1999)

In 1999, CCCADI welcomed Totó la Momposina to the stage for a performance that captured the essence of her life's work: a five-generation legacy of Afro-Caribbean musicianship rooted in Colombia's Caribbean coast. Watch as she brings cumbia, bullerengue, chalupa, garabato, and mapale to life—rhythms inherited from her family and woven together with the son, guaracha, rumba, and bolero that traveled to Colombia via San Basilio de Palenque.

Totó's voice and movement were inseparable: a spontaneity and power that commanded respect across continents. She built her artistry not just as a performer, but as a keeper of traditions—honoring the rhythms and stories of her ancestors while creating space for new generations to witness their beauty.

Totó la Momposina became an ancestor in 2026. This archive preserves her presence among us. Ibayé.
