The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) is honored to present and facilitate our second annual wellness symposium, Àjọṣe: A Diaspora Symposium on Collective Healing and Freedom
Àjọ means together/collective/association/gathering and Ṣe means to do/to act/to make. Embedded in Yoruba philosophy, àjose lives. It refers to the communal responsibility and cooperative effort required to facilitate the healing and evolution of a people. Collective participation as opposed to individual action anchors the healing and wellness of the community, as values such as community cooperation, shared responsibility, collective power and mutual care form the foundation and the fabric of wellness, healing, capacity building and abundance.
The Àjọṣe Wellness Symposium is designed as a transformative day of truth, liberation, and holistic well-being cultivation, specifically for individuals of African ancestry. Moving beyond mainstream clinical methods, this symposium centers African-centered philosophies and cultural congruent healing practices to address historical and modern racial, spiritual, and cultural trauma and patterns of behavior.
Through an intersectional approach, the symposium brings together holistic practitioners, elders, artists, wellness vendors, families, and change-makers to explore the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, and community. Attendees will engage in movement, workshops, and conversations to restore energy, honor the principle of Sankofa (going back to fetch our traditions), and build a path forward.
Key symposium features:
Children’s Village
The Children’s Village is a nurturing journey into youth well-being, designed to expose young participants to Afro-Caribbean creative practices that support holistic wellness. Through art-making, storytelling, singing, and dancing, children are invited to explore and express themselves in ways that cultivate joy, imagination, and connection. Grounded in cultural traditions and community-centered values, the experience offers meaningful stimuli that encourage body–mind integration, self-regulation, and self-awareness.
Holistic Workshops
Sessions focusing on Afrocentric wellness domains including nutrition and our battle with sugar, integrated spiritual engagement through Kemetic Yoga, and sound therapy via a dynamic sound bathing.
