We recognize and honor one of the warrior keepers of our culture & history in NYC and cherished friend of the Center--Hiram Maristany--whose work recently showed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum as part of Down These Mean Streets: Community and Place in Urban Photography. As a co-founder/official photographer of the Young Lords party and one of the early pioneers of building El Museo, Maristany is a trailblazer of our community. What CCCADI has done with preserving the traditions of the African Diaspora, Hiram has done through his camera with preserving the history and legacy of El Barrio. His legacy must be recognized. We are honored to do so.
