Inspired by the alignment of the sacred energies of Juneteenth, summer solstice and Elegua’s Feast Day, this year’s program focuses on Carnival as a ritual of liberation fueling our journey to freedom and opening the path for healing.

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It specifically marks June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people in the state were free, effectively enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued two and a half years earlier. The day has become a celebration of freedom, culture, and the ongoing fight for racial equality.
Juneteenth represents freedom, resilience, and the triumph of justice over oppression for people of African descent, symbolizing the end of slavery and the ongoing struggle for equality and civil rights.
