CCCADI CROSSROADS brings “Honoring The Matriarchs” project to a close

CCCADI’S CROSSROADS program brought the Honoring the Matriarchs initiative to a powerful closing with two separate events in Puerto Rico and St. Croix, each unveiling a collaborative tapestry resulting from months of workshops and conversations.

These tapestries illustrate the deep bonds between Virgin Islanders and Puerto Ricans.  Our shared stories, struggles and traditions continue to weave our Caribbean family together.

Led by former CROSSROADS Interim Director Marissel Hernández Romero, Honoring the Matriarchs brought together artists, writers, and community members from Puerto Rico and the USVI.

Artist Theda Sandiford (USVI) and writer Ana Castillo (Puerto Rico) led workshops integrating tapestry-making and storytelling, ensuring Afro-Caribbean matriarchs’ contributions were actively woven into contemporary cultural expressions.
